27 Oct Botox® vs Dysport® vs Xeomin®: How to Choose The Right Injectable
Whoever said, “You’re only as old as you feel” was only partially right. You may feel younger than you are in body and spirit, yet people may assume you’re older due to wrinkles, crow’s feet, laugh lines, and other common effects of aging.
So what do you do to bring balance to the way you feel and the way you look?
The answer could be injectables. Injectables are an ideal way to bridge the inconsistency between how you look and how you feel. They are quick, relatively painless, and offer dramatic and long-lasting results. The only real question is choosing between the top three: Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin.
All three injectables have a few things in common. All are derived from botulinum toxin A and have the same intended result of relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Each of the three will help you have smoother looking skin in the 7 – 10 days it takes for full therapeutic benefits. And over time, each of the three will help fade existing wrinkles and prevent future wrinkles because the constant “folding” action of the skin that causes wrinkles no longer happens.
Botox
Most people have heard of Botox. The Food and Drug Administration originally approved Botox in 2002 for the treatment of muscle spasticity and then for cosmetic purposes a short time later. It is most effective at treating frown lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles, and bands of skin on the neck. Many people see impressive results after a single session – and those results can last up to six months. Deep furrowing above the eyes or deeply set crow’s feet may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.
Dysport
Available since 2009, Dysport was the second injectable treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Dysport is often the treatment of choice for frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Since it is mixed differently, Dysport tends to have a slightly more diffused effect than Botox or Xeomin, and Dysport is formulated with more units per treatment. This makes it a great option when you have numerous fine lines on the upper face because the distribution is spread across the treatment area.
Xeomin
The newest injectable on the market, Xeomin is a popular choice for the treatment of droopy eyelids and moderate to severe frown lines between your eyebrows. One thing that is different about Xeomin is that it does not contain any additives and is a slightly more economical choice when it comes to injectables. Because it is said to have a softer effect, it is a great choice for first-time users and those who want a more natural, less frozen look. Results with Xeomin typically occur in as little as one week.
What to Expect When You Receive an Injectable
After identifying the target muscles in your face for treatment, your doctor uses a small needle to inject the ingredients of Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin into the target area(s). Many patients describe this as feeling like a mild insect bite. There is typically no downtime and you can resume regular activities right away.
